Neerja first weekend collection: Sonam Kapoor’s film sets the box office on fire

Sonam Kapoor‘s Neerja, the biopic on India’s youngest recipient of the Ashok Chakra Neerja Bhanot, has set the box office on fire in just three days of its release. The film might not have opened to a great start on February 19, the day it released, but word-of-mouth publicity and glowing reviews made people flock to the theatres over the weekend. As a result, in its first three days, Neerja managed to collect a staggering Rs 22.01 crore in India.

Based on the events that led up to the September 5, 1986 Pan Am Flight 73 hijack and how Neerja Bhanot saved the lives of 359 people by laying down her own, Neerja has been appreciated by most moviegoers.
